Definition

A structured catalog file (or API stream) that a merchant shares with OpenAI so ChatGPT can index its products and show current price and availability. It follows OpenAI's published Products spec and is part of the Agentic Commerce Protocol.

Agentic Commerce Protocol: The open standard OpenAI co-developed with Stripe that powered Instant Checkout. It defines product feeds, checkout sessions and delegated payment tokens. Since March 24, 2026, OpenAI has extended it to product discovery, and it's licensed under Apache 2.0 for any business or AI platform to implement.
Agentic commerce: Commerce transactions initiated, researched, or completed with an AI agent acting on the shopper's behalf, rather than a human clicking through a storefront unassisted.

It's on by default for eligible stores on Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Meta. ChatGPT has none: Shopify sends ChatGPT buyers to your online store checkout.
Shopify Agentic plan: A Shopify plan for merchants who don't use Shopify as their ecommerce platform. It adds their products to Shopify Catalog and lets them sell through agentic storefronts in AI channels, and on other Shopify channels such as the Shop channel, without a published Shopify online store. It has no monthly subscription fee; payment and app fees can apply.
