Case study · WooCommerce

Complete solar systems, laid out like products.

PSW Energy is a Perth solar, battery and EV charging installer, part of a group that has been in WA energy for two decades. We built its WooCommerce store, so a household could compare systems and see what's in each one before anyone climbed on the roof.

Perth Solar Warehouse had been installing since 2011. In October 2017 the group set up PSW Energy to bring the same installation team to a wider market, with an itemised buying experience customers could browse on their own.

A solar system is a bundle: panels, an inverter, often a battery, plus installation. To sell it online, each system had to be a product a homeowner could understand, compare and trust.

What we did

How the build came together.

  1. Package the system

Complete systems listed as products, with specifications laid out as product attributes and the purchasing options as variations.

  2. Shop by category

Solar, batteries and EV chargers as separate categories, so a household adding a battery to existing panels doesn't wade through full systems.

  3. Put the proof on the page

Manufacturer datasheets attached to products, so a buyer can check the spec sheet without asking for it.

  4. Launch in stages

Build began in February 2018. From April, Perth Solar Warehouse pages sent visitors to the new store, and it opened to the public in May 2018.

The result

The online front door for one of WA's busiest installers.

Since the store opened, PSW Energy has become one of Western Australia's larger installers. In 2025 it ranked fourth in the state for solar and third for batteries. In 2024 it appeared in its own right in EUPD Research's Installer Award Australia, and in January 2025 it was certified to three ISO standards.

Those results belong to the installer and its team, not to a website. The store's job was to let a household see a complete system and its specs before booking an installation. It has done that since May 2018.
